On the evening of Friday, April 4th, Union School held its first ever Celebration of Nations. Organized by PTO volunteers, families were invited to share their culture by setting up a table, sharing food, and participating in activities and games. Families representing a wide variety of different countries and territories participated: Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Ireland, France, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Chile, Brazil, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Albania, China, Ukraine, Pakistan, and many different parts of India. Students received ‘passports’ and visited each country’s table, sampling food and learning from informational posters and visuals. This event highlighted the cultural and linguistic diversity of our local community and the inspiring way we all come together in support of Farmington’s Vision of the Global Citizen and excellence in education for all of our children. In addition to the tables hosted by families, our Chinese Language, Culture and Music club, led by Ms. Chang and Ms. Smith, hosted calligraphy writing and music in the music room. Mrs. Vaughn and Mrs. Hunt, our World Language teachers, hosted fun games in the art room. We hope that event will become a new tradition at Union School.
