Superintendent Greider to Retire in June

Letter from Superintendent Greider

Letter from the Board of Education Chair

Dear Farmington Families, Faculty and Staff

It is an extremely difficult and bittersweet day for the Farmington Public Schools, as we announce that Kathy Greider, our Superintendent of Schools, will retire at the end of the school year.

It is impossible to list all that Kathy has accomplished for our schools and our children over her 16 years of service to the Farmington community. Thousands of students have benefited from her commitment to excellence, her selfless dedication, and her drive to ensure that all of our children leave our schools prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

Kathy’s leadership over the years has fostered a climate where our students could thrive and become the engaged global citizens that our community and indeed our country needs. From the start, Kathy’s leadership and vision put Farmington on the cutting edge of public education in our country. From the initial development of five year goals, the design and implementation of our student-centered instructional model, along with the evolution from the Vision of the Graduate to the Vision of the Global Citizen, Kathy had Farmington at the forefront of where Connecticut and the country were headed.

Kathy has been a mentor to so many educators in our district. Teachers and administrators look to her as a model for both problem solving and educational innovation. She has fostered a mindset of continuous improvement and has served as an example of the dedication required by public school leaders to ensure that a school district has all the resources necessary to provide the highest quality education.

Through her leadership and drive, she was the essential person in the effort to build our new high school. Simply put, we do not have it without her. Her imagination and vision have left Farmington with a jewel for many years to come, positively impacting Farmington families for generations.  One of the most important commitments a community can make is to ensure that its children have the education necessary to compete and succeed in the world around them. Under Kathy’s leadership, our children have been provided with an education that is second to none. The highest compliment I believe I can give her is that under her leadership, she has made sure that Farmington kept that promise in a way that is the envy of Connecticut and the nation.

I have had the privilege and pleasure to serve with Kathy for 16 years. The absence of her intellect, her sense of humor, her focus and drive, her self-sacrifice and dedication to the Town of Farmington, will leave a hole in all of our hearts. I know Farmington has a special place in her heart. I can say with confidence that she occupies a special place in the hearts of so many Farmington families who have been impacted by her stewardship of our schools. We wish Kathy, her husband Jerry and her family the very best. May you have a happy, healthy and long retirement.

Sincerely,

Bill Beckert
Chair of the Farmington Board of Education
