Farmington High School Athletic Department Recognized with NIAAA Quality Program Assessment Award

Farmington, CT — On December 15, 2025, the Farmington High School Athletic Department was formally recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) for earning the prestigious Quality Program Assessment (QPA) Award, a national distinction that recognizes exemplary high school athletic programs.

The NIAAA QPA is a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment that evaluates athletic programs across 10 rigorous categories, including philosophy and educational compatibility, program safety and risk management, communication, access and equity, sports medicine, technology, personnel and program assessment, and innovation and creative leadership strategies. To earn this recognition, programs must demonstrate high-quality practices and earn at least 80% of the available points in each category, meeting nationally recognized standards of excellence.

The assessment was completed by Athletic Director Matt Martorelli, whose leadership and commitment to continuous improvement guided the department through the rigorous cohort-based process. To date, Farmington High School is only the third athletic program in the state to achieve this level of recognition, underscoring the exceptional quality and alignment of its athletic programs.

This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our coaches, athletic trainers, student-athletes, families, and the broader Farmington community, whose ongoing support is essential to the success of our programs. We are incredibly proud of the culture of excellence, safety, equity, and sportsmanship that defines Farmington High School athletics and grateful to all who contribute to making our programs a source of pride for our school and community.

Farmington Public Schools including Farmington Collaborative Preschool and Farmington Continuing Education are closed due to inclement weather. EXCL will be open at the West Woods Upper Elementary School location from 8am-5pm for students who have pre-enrolled in the inclement weather program.
