Mental Health

  • Anxiety and depression are fairly common occurrences within teen populations. When these conditions have become overwhelming and are left untreated they can lead to self-medicating with alcohol and drugs and other risky behaviors, as well as thoughts of self-harm and suicide. Being able to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health issues is the key first step in getting help.
    • Not sure what are typical teenage behaviors and what might need to paid more attention to? See this excellent 2 part public television production called Typical or Troubled part 1 and part 2.
    • The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a valuable resource for information related to suicide and depression
    • All Farmington High School seniors are now trained in QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) in order to be able to identify a friend or love one in need and get them immediate help. See what it is all about on the QPR Institute website.
